I think this is my first Stephen King。 I can be see why people enjoy his works。 I think some parts have dated a little and are a bit problematic, especially with some of the ways the female characters are expressed (by this cis-man writer), but I think it probably was ok for its time。 Overall it holds up well, especially in this era of pandemic。 The pacing is good (I think I read the super long unedited version) and it was still pretty snappy。 The sci-fi/fantasy aspects were good, and well integ I think this is my first Stephen King。 I can be see why people enjoy his works。 I think some parts have dated a little and are a bit problematic, especially with some of the ways the female characters are expressed (by this cis-man writer), but I think it probably was ok for its time。 Overall it holds up well, especially in this era of pandemic。 The pacing is good (I think I read the super long unedited version) and it was still pretty snappy。 The sci-fi/fantasy aspects were good, and well integrated into the rest of the plot。 Worth reading。 。。。more

11/22/63 is one of my favorite books from last year so I had to pick up this one! It’s been a journey to read this during COVID-19。 I just had my vaccine and finished the book on my flight home from checking on family in Ohio。 I mention this because it was interesting to see Kent State, & Akron mentioned。 I love Nick & Tom’s characters and I am very glad I was able to finish this saga!! This is Stephen King at his finest。 I loved this (really, really, really long) story。 Content: panic and events surrounding a super-virus and there are a few characters that love to swear。

3。5⭐ This book took me 4 months to read because I kept putting it down。 At first I was really into it with the relatable pandemic, apocalyptic concept。 I also always love the depth in his characters but for me this book was way to long。 Lastly I didn't have any feelings for the end, maybe by the time I finished I forgot what I felt 😐。 3。5⭐ This book took me 4 months to read because I kept putting it down。 At first I was really into it with the relatable pandemic, apocalyptic concept。 I also always love the depth in his characters but for me this book was way to long。 Lastly I didn't have any feelings for the end, maybe by the time I finished I forgot what I felt 😐。 。。。more

DNF @ 50%。 I tried so hard to like this book but I couldn't force myself to read any more。 I liked the slow spread of the virus at the beginning but that was all。 None of the characters interested me and everything moved so slowly with no end point in sight。 After a decent beginning, everything fell apart for me。 Very disappointing considering how many people recommend it as one of the best apocalyptic books。 DNF @ 50%。 I tried so hard to like this book but I couldn't force myself to read any more。 I liked the slow spread of the virus at the beginning but that was all。 None of the characters interested me and everything moved so slowly with no end point in sight。 After a decent beginning, everything fell apart for me。 Very disappointing considering how many people recommend it as one of the best apocalyptic books。 。。。more

This book I don’t know if it was just reading it during COVID or what but it really hit home。

Honestly, not my favorite King book。 I was really excited to read the unabridged version, but entire sections - 100s of pages - were boring and tough to get through。 I’ve read dozens of King’s books, and I won’t stop because of my mediocre experience with this so called magnum opus。

A Masterpiece - as the Guardian said。 Just gripped me from the beginning。 1211 pages!!!It took me a while to read as I didn't want to know where it was heading in some ways。 King is the master of creating characters you really love and care about。 But also the most evil you never ever want to meet。 A Masterpiece - as the Guardian said。 Just gripped me from the beginning。 1211 pages!!!It took me a while to read as I didn't want to know where it was heading in some ways。 King is the master of creating characters you really love and care about。 But also the most evil you never ever want to meet。 。。。more

M-O-O-N spells an epic journey, laws, yes。 I bought this book last year around August。。。kept putting it off。 Very intimidated it being 1100 plus pages。 Not sure if the extra pages helped it but it was a whopper ride。 Really felt for poor old Tom Cullen and Trashy。I’m interested in reading Eyes of the Dragon since Flagg is in it。 I wonder if King will ever write another book with him。Constant Reader is hopeful。

Amazing book, my first Stephen king novel and I was shocked at how good。 I bought the uncut version on accident and was disappointed that I couldn’t find an audiobook to pair with the reading, but I didn’t need it at all in the end。 It was so enjoyable to read。

This book is a great read I found book1 to be the better of the 3 books book 2 was a bit of a grind at times but definitely worth persevering with it just falls short of being my favourite Stephen king book witch happens to be 11/22/63

Wow what a journey! For a book with over 1000 pages, King managed to keep me gripped through most of it。 It was especially interesting to see how a plague took hold of the world’s population in comparison to our lives during COVID-19! Every character had their own purpose and I loved when it seems a character had no real significance and then they played a vital role towards the end。 I will admit it could be quite disheartening reaching a chapter whose character wasn’t as compelling。 Although yo Wow what a journey! 。。。more

Every time I read a King book, I feel overwhelmed by the genuinity of the characters he brought to life。 It does not matter whether you like them or not, you cannot deny that they exist。。。 somewhere in the world。 Maybe even the dark man and that's more than scary。 But at the same time, there are Nicks, Toms, and Larrys who are on the verge of two worlds and have the courage to choose the difficult path, and those give me hope。 Every time I read a King book, I feel overwhelmed by the genuinity of the characters he brought to life。 It does not matter whether you like them or not, you cannot deny that they exist。。。 somewhere in the world。 Maybe even the dark man and that's more than scary。 But at the same time, there are Nicks, Toms, and Larrys who are on the verge of two worlds and have the courage to choose the difficult path, and those give me hope。 。。。more

Some parts of this book are SO so good。。。like I've cried, I've laughed, I've been at the edge of my seat- but those are seriously overshadowed by how fucking offensive this book is。 Like I was consistently appalled, like jaw on the floor, by how disgusting some of the parts are。 And like, it's not as if Stephen King is SAYING anything about racism- he just IS actively racist。 Somehow no POC lived through the flu, and the ones that did legit talk like they're from Song of the South。 Having Mother Some parts of this book are SO so good。。。like I've cried, I've laughed, I've been at the edge of my seat- but those are seriously overshadowed by how fucking offensive this book is。 Like I was consistently appalled, like jaw on the floor, by how disgusting some of the parts are。 And like, it's not as if Stephen King is SAYING anything about racism- he just IS actively racist。 Somehow no POC lived through the flu, and the ones that did legit talk like they're from Song of the South。 Having Mother Abigail doesn't just cancel that out。 Additionally- no gay people can survive captain Tripps, and all women wish they had men to take care of them, and also like HELLO ableism? Yeah。 Really legit soured me on a LOT of the novel。 Also, some of the parts legit are a slog to get through。 And usually I don't have issues getting thru long Stephen King books。 I really don't get why this one is so beloved- like it's ok? Idk???? I prefer so many other of his books。 。。。more

I read the revised/updated 1990 version。 This being 2021, the slight revisions (mostly regarding technology, slang and pop culture) were still outdated。 But none of that detracted from this "real-time" (1990) dystopian post-apocalyptic masterpiece。 Well worth the investment of time。 I read the revised/updated 1990 version。 This being 2021, the slight revisions (mostly regarding technology, slang and pop culture) were still outdated。 But none of that detracted from this "real-time" (1990) dystopian post-apocalyptic masterpiece。 Well worth the investment of time。 。。。more

I really like Stephen King, but this book had so many characters and it brought up a lot of questions in the back of my mind that it was slow going at first。 But I’m glad I stuck with it and finished it。 😁👍

As an initial disclaimer, I read the complete and uncut edition of this novel。 Published by Doubleday and coupled with a sporadic number of black-and-white illustrations, this edition clocks in at 1,153 pages。 The cut version, according to a quick google search, sits at 823 pages, and a perhaps less hefty version (in terms of size and width of the pages) of the uncut edition is around 1,300 pages。 That said, based on the edition I read, I would say that even the condensed version is still too lo As an initial disclaimer, I read the complete and uncut edition of this novel。 Published by Doubleday and coupled with a sporadic number of black-and-white illustrations, this edition clocks in at 1,153 pages。 The cut version, according to a quick google search, sits at 823 pages, and a perhaps less hefty version (in terms of size and width of the pages) of the uncut edition is around 1,300 pages。 That said, based on the edition I read, I would say that even the condensed version is still too long。 First, I did enjoy reading this beast of a novel。 It was detailed (insanely detailed!) and you would be hard pressed to find any plot holes or illogical conclusions or actions in any novel by King。 He is a master storyteller indeed。 Frannie, Stu, Tom, Nick, and all the others are great characters who do a lot for the novel; however, The Stand was far from my favorite King novel。 It may be blasphemy, but I prefer 11/22/63 to this book。(continue reading on the blog: https://freeairforfish。com/2021/05/13。。。 ) 。。。more

I read the extended version and boy oh boy was it descriptive! Overall my favourite so far of King’s work。 I really cared about all of the characters (and there’s a lot) and perfect read during a pandemic。The ending (in perfect King fashion) make my jaw drop and I was extremely satisfied putting it down。
